Bowdoin Hull Restoration

Week of February 18, 2019

Posted on: February 22, 2019

Bowdoin is being put back together this week!  Four new frames were installed and many more are cut and ready to go into the vessel next week.  The shipyard also received our shipment of Danish white oak that will be used for planking the hull.  This white oak was planted around 200 years ago specifically for shipbuilding and is some of the highest quality white oak available.  The Ernestina-Morrissey, Massachusetts’ state ship, which is being rebuilt right next to Bowdoin is completely planked with stock from the same source.  I will send pictures of the oak in the next update.

Hope you all had a great week!

All the best,

Captain McLean
