While almost 20 years ago, I still remember the events of September 11, 2001 very clearly. I was serving as the Command Post Chief at Ramstein AB Germany. On live TV, I saw the second plane crash into the World Trade Towers. A short while later we received a real-world Emergency Action Message closing all bases around the world. The next few hours and days were chaotic but my staff 40 airman rose to the challenge and coordinated all the necessary activities to close the base and report our status up the chain of command to the Pentagon.
