Arthur Wood “Woody” Chapman, Jr.

Arthur Wood "Woody" Chapman, Jr. in planeMy father-in-law was a Navy fighter pilot in WW II off the carrier USS Saratoga (CV-3) in the Pacific Fleet. He participated in most of the significant battles in the South Pacific including Midway and Guadalcanal. Woody and several of his fellow pilots formed a barbershop style quartet and entertained the troops throughout the fleet. Upon returning to the States in 1945 he met and married Lt.jg Marion Saunders, a disbursing officer (my mother-in-law). His squadron VF-12 met regularly for the rest of their lives.
