Please see updates for the semester and COVID-19 information here. We are offering limited Admissions tours for pre-registered families, but the campus is otherwise closed to visitors at this time. Thank you for your patience!
I am a native Mainer and live on 26 acres in Stetson. We have three daughters, one of whom lives with us while she completes her Chemical Engineering degree at UMaine. The other two, twins, graduated a from Husson University. One has a Master’s in Business Administration and works for Machias Savings Bank. The other has a degree in Nursing and works on the cardiac care floor at Northern Light Healthcare in Bangor. We are very proud of the young women that our daughters have grown up to be. My wife is a kindergarten teacher at Carmel Elementary School and, but for a few years at home to help raise children, has taught for approximately 20 years.
I retired from a career in the Maine State Police before coming to MMA. The bulk of my duties consisted of rural patrol as a Trooper with the last few years on the Interstate in the Bangor area. I was a member of the Bomb Team for eight years – a fun and welcome break from the day to day routine of police work! I was also a member of the State Police Pipe and Drum Unit for about 15 years. I learned to play the Great Highland bagpipe so that I could join the unit. We played at a lot of events and it was terrifically rewarding to represent the State Police and my profession in such a highly visible group.
My wife and I run our small family farm to help keep ourselves occupied. We have a horse, three sheep, chickens, turkeys and a few barn cats to keep the mice on their toes. We raise a pig every year and keep a few hives of honeybees too. My favorite outside hobby is working with my team of oxen. My wife is a fantastic gardener which means fresh vegetables, a whole lot of fruit trees, and beautiful landscaping. I have a woodshop where I entertain myself making furniture, gifts and huge piles of shavings with a wood lathe. Some things I keep but a lot end up as just fancy firewood.
I love when the campus comes back to life after breaks between classes. It is uncomfortably quiet around without students.
I have a 2003 Road King, a 1975 MG Midget and I play the world’s most hideous bluegrass music on a banjo.
No, but my wife has two dogs!
My favorite movie is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I don’t know how people can’t crack up when the attic ladder hits Chevy Chase – “She’s a beaut, Clark!”
