Daniel Thorogood’s path to maritime leadership began with the influence of his father, a Master Mariner in the British Merchant Navy. Dan developed an early appreciation for shipping’s vital role in connecting the world’s economies while living and working in Dubai, UK, Singapore and the United States.
Upon graduation in 2000, Dan joined SEACOR Holdings in operational roles, supporting safety management systems and crewing operations. In early 2009, he assumed the presidency and later the role of CEO of Seabulk, then a Jones Act tanker operation with a 25-tug harbor fleet along the Gulf Coast and Florida.
Under Dan’s leadership, Seabulk evolved into a fully integrated maritime platform. The company built dozens of new Jones Act tugs, a Great Lakes dry cargo ATB, and four new Jones Act tank vessels, while acquiring U.S. Shipping in 2021. Dan championed technological innovation, introducing Rotortugs to the U.S. market and building the nation’s first hybrid, diesel-electric harbor tugs. The fuel-efficient Jones Act tankers developed in 2015 remain among the most advanced in the market today.
As CEO of Fairwater, which launched in 2024, Dan leads the Jones Act’s newest and most diversified energy transportation provider. The company owns a 31-vessel fleet of ECO and conventional medium-range product tankers, 114,000 DWT Aframax tankers, and articulated tug-barges, serving all major Jones Act coastwise tank vessel trades and Alaska operations. The company also provides ship management services for 12 other vessels.
Dan brings a clear vision to his role: building the industry’s most respected energy transportation provider while driving the reinvigoration of the U.S. Merchant Marine. His commitment extends beyond operational excellence to advocating for the maritime industry’s critical role in national security and economic prosperity.
Dan resides with his wife Cristin and their two sons, Nicholas and Matthew. The family enjoys boating, fishing, and spending time in the Bahamas and Europe.
