Course Description
This course provides practice and demonstration of the required functions of ECDIS as the primary means of navigation in undertaking the duties of the Officer In Charge of a Navigation Watch (OINCW). This will include knowledge, understanding and proficiency in: capability and limitations of ECDIS; operation, interpretation, and analysis of information obtained from ECDIS and management of operational procedures, system files and data.

All students entering the course should have completed formal training in Terrestrial Navigation and the use of Radar/ARPA for safe navigation and collision avoidance. Additionally, they shall have a thorough familiarization of visual navigation, completed a period of supervised bridge watch-keeping duties, and be proficient in the use of personal computer systems.

 

USCG Approval
Applicants who successfully complete our ECDIS course:

  • Will satisfy the training requirements within46 CFR 11.305; 46 CFR 11.307; 46 CFR 11.308; 46 CFR 11.311; 46 CFR 11.313; 46 CFR 11.315; 46 CFR 11.317; 46 CFR 11.319; and 46 CFR 11.321.
  • The specific tasks from the National Assessment Guidelines found in NVIC 10-14 and 11-14 (Tasks 6.1.A-6.7A), NVIC 12-14 (Tasks 2.7.C, 4.1.A, and 4.2.A), and NVIC 13-14 (Task 1.7.A).
