James L. Farrington, Jr. ’57
James Leo Farrington, Jr., 83, of Biddeford died Friday, November 8, 2019 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born July 20, 1936 in Biddeford to James L. and Marion E. (Tanguay) Farrington, Sr.
James was educated locally, graduating from Old Orchard Beach High School. A graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, he served in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a Captain in 1986.
On 12/05/1960 he married Virginia Sheehan in St. Mary’s Church in Biddeford.
He had worked as a boiler engineer with the Travelers Insurance Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1993.
He had enjoyed sports, especially basketball and football and was quarterback for Maine Maritime Academy. He also enjoyed outdoor spots including fishing and baseball. He was a member of the Biddeford-Saco Elks Lodge #1597.
He was preceded in death by Virginia, his wife of 50 years in 2010, and by a brother Robert Farrington in 1999.
Surviving are five children: Joseph Cordeau and wife Barbara of Ketchum, ID, Patricia McAvoy and husband Jason of Old Orchard Beach, Dana Farrington of Saco, Tracey Guignard and husband Anthony of South Portland, and Timothy Farrington of Virginia; two brothers, William Farrington of Old Orchard Beach and Daniel Farrington of Bridgewater, MA; and nine grandchildren.
