General Description:

The student workers at the library assist in the basic functions of the library, including circulation, reserves, shelf management, customer service, and facility operations. Reporting to the Access & Collections Services Librarian, they are scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week, primarily during evening and weekend hours. Student workers may open and close the library regularly, and act as the Person-In-Charge during non-standard business hours (outside of 8am-5pm Monday – Friday hours).

The ideal candidate for this position is excited to be an ambassador for the library, focused on customer service, and able to juggle multiple priorities throughout the shift. General Description:

The Resident Assistant (RA) position within the Department of Residential Life is a live-in student position, which requires the RA to reside in Curtis Hall or The Commons, overseeing a section of students. The section typically ranges between 24 and 60 students. The RA works under the direct supervision and direction of the Assistant Director of Residential Life and at times under the Assistant Director of Student Activities, Residence and Social Media Coordinator, and Director of Residential Life and Student Activities.

Within the section, the RA is responsible for creating and promoting a community environment that is conducive to and enhances the personal growth and development of all residents, utilizing educational and social programming, counseling and/or mentoring to residents, and promoting student responsibility, while fulfilling administrative expectations.

Responsibilities in the paid leadership position of the RA are numerous, and the RA is the focal point for the day-to-day operation of their section. The RA is at one time: student, community developer, referral agent, business manager, peer, friend, and disciplinarian. Simply stated, the RA position is the most comprehensive paid student leadership position attainable at Maine Maritime Academy. This diversity of roles and responsibilities is challenging and calls on the RA to develop organizational and interpersonal skills. The position of RA provides an opportunity to maximize self-development, maturity, and confidence during the college experience.

• Be present in Curtis Hall or the Commons between 7pm and 7am of the night of work.
• Conduct 3 rounds between the hours of 7pm and 12am. One round must be conducted at 7pm, another between 8pm and 10pm, and the final one at 11pm. Round schedule may be adjusted by department.
• Rounds consist of checking Curtis Hall and the Commons for any safety or policy violation or concern, securing all exit doors, following up on any maintenance or public works concern, and talking to residents who are around campus.
• During the duty shift of 7pm-7am, the Break RA should be accessible by residents and professional staff. The Break RA checks in with the professional staff on call at 7pm.

Under direct supervision of the Director of Residential Life and Student Activities, the Orientation Coordinator is a paid 32-40 hours per week position working with multiple offices across the Maine Maritime Academy campus. The Orientation Coordinator plays a major role in planning and facilitating New Student Orientation with the Orientation Leaders and professional staff. This is a live-in position with a single room and private bathroom for the duration of summer in Curtis Hall.  Access to a kitchen will be available all summer for you to provide your own meals. This position is paid at an hourly rate per Maine State minimum wage.  Possible internship credit for eligible students enrolled in LO-400.

Duties: Admissions:

• Give tours, as needed, to prospective students and families.

General Description:
Under direct supervision of the Student Activities Coordinator, an Orientation Leader is a paid stipend position working with multiple offices across the Maine Maritime Academy campus. An Orientation Leader plays a major role in assisting with New Student Orientation sessions, Orientation Coordinators and professional staff. This is a live-in position, per the duration of each session, with meals provided.

Pay Rate: Stipend of $300 per session, additional work between NSO sessions paid at $14.15/hr

Duties:

• Facilitate small group interactions on various topics, including course and student life issues.
• Promote interaction among groups of new students during small group discussions, icebreakers, meals, and activities.
• Participate in training prior to orientation sessions and be responsible for all information covered during these trainings.
• Supervise and participate in activities during Orientation sessions.
• Work closely and cooperate with other Orientation Leaders, Orientation Coordinators and professional staff to develop, prepare, implement, and evaluate Orientation programs.
• Provide administrative support for the program, including preparation of Orientation materials and decorations.

Purpose/Role: Responsible for oversight of training ship when the Academy is observing an academic vacation schedule whereby the vessel’s professional crew may be absent during the work day/week.

General Description:
Cadet watch personnel shall monitor vessel’s systems to protect all embarked persons, vessel equipment and the environment. Personnel will be assigned routine tasks as directed by the Master’s Castine Standing Orders and the Night Orders of the Chief Mate and Chief Engineer or their designees. Routine inspections are to be made about the vessel to ensure operational equipment continues to function and potential fire/flooding hazards are detected. Additionally, housekeeping duties shall be continuous.

Pay Rate: $16.00

Duties:

• Responsible for record and log keeping, maintenance lists and accountability.
• Reports unsafe conditions found to the designated ship’s officer as necessary.
• Responsible for accomplishing tasks as set forth in the Night and Standing Orders and any other ongoing work.
• Is a member of the watch team that is that is engaged in vessel oversight.
• Liaisons with the Department of Campus Safety to accomplish any urgent tasks that affect the safety or security of the vessel and those embarked.
