Your Application

As a transfer student, your application will include:

  • A complete and submit the Common Application, including the $50 application fee
    • Note: MMA is pleased to offer application fee waivers for qualifying students, which means that we will waive the $50 application fee for students with high financial needs. You may request an application fee waiver through your Common Application. Once you submit a request, your guidance counselor will receive an email invitation to endorse it.
  • An official high school transcript
  • Results of either the SAT(MMA Code 3505) or the ACT (MMA Code 1648)
  • A letter of recommendation from a dean, professor, or professional staff member from the last institution you attended
    • Note: A transfer student from another maritime academy requires a letter of recommendation from the Commandant of Midshipmen of the academy previously attended.

International Transfer Students

Maine Maritime Academy offers a truly unique college experience, and we are excited that you interested in transferring to our institution!

In addition to your Common Application, you will need to submit several additional documents:

  • An evaluation service report (see below) if your academic transcript is not in English
  • TOEFL, IELTS or Pearson PTE scores, if English is not your native language; SAT/ACT scores will be also be accepted to fulfill this requirement

Transcript Evaluation Services

If you are submitting non-U.S. transcripts, diplomas, certificates, and licenses, they need to be evaluated by an approved evaluation service. The evaluation service will verify international transcripts for authenticity, grade and course equivalencies, and transfer credits. We recognize members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services for international transcript evaluation services.

Application evaluations are available through member websites and there is a fee for this service. The fee varies depending on which service you choose and what type of evaluation you request.

As an international applicant, we request that you request course-by-course breakdown of undergraduate credits, a calculation of credit hours, and a verification of authenticity.

English Proficiency

As an international applicant, and if your native language is not English, we will need receive several additional documents before we begin to review your materials.

If you are not able to provide test RESULTS, documentation showing that you have successfully complemented of an intensive English as a Second Language program may be acceptable.

Financial Support

Before enrolling, you will need to certify that you have access to funding that will cover MMA fees, books, supplies, tuition and living expenses throughout duration of your time at MMA.

Once you are accepted, you will receive a notification from our office with directions as to how to submit your financial support documentation.

Unfortunately, international students are ineligible for any form of federal financial assistance while enrolled. If you would like information about private funding sources for international students, please contact our Financial Aid Office.
