Maine Maritime Academy Welcomes New Training Ship State of Maine

Maine Maritime Academy marked a major milestone this spring with the arrival and official handover of its new training vessel, State of Maine, in Portland on March 30, 2026.

As the Academy’s newest training ship, State of Maine will play a central role in educating and preparing future mariners. The modern vessel significantly expands training capacity and provides updated facilities designed to support hands-on learning at sea.

The handover ceremony celebrated both the ship’s arrival and the continued legacy of training vessels that have carried the name State of Maine. With cadets set to begin sailing aboard the ship this year, the Academy looks ahead to a new chapter in maritime education.
