From the Alumni Association Financial Support Committee:

ABCs of the Alfond Challenge and the MMA Annual Fund
Dr. Marc Edward Gousse ’82

Alumni SealThe Harold Alfond Foundation has challenged Maine Maritime Academy to raise a cumulative total of $2.25 million dollars over the next three MMA Annual Fund campaigns (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2020) and increase our Alumni Participation Rate to 20% in Annual Fund 2020 (July1, 2019 – June 30, 2020). When successful, MMA will receive $750,000 from the Harold Alfond Foundation towards scholarships for MMA students.

The Annual Fund is an annual fund raising campaign conducted every fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30, by the MMA Advancement Department. Use of these funds:

  1. is unrestricted by MMA,
  2. cannot roll over at year-end, and
  3. covers educational experiences that otherwise would not be served.

Your gift to Maine Maritime Academy most likely counts as an Annual Fund gift if it does not support any endowed fund (scholarship, professorship, etc.) or a capital project (tangible) like a building, bench, sculpture, room renovation, simulator, Men’s locker room, boat, etc.  Annual Fund gifts can be donor designated to an academic department, athletics, financial aid, waterfront, etc., or undesignated to support MMA’s greatest needs, which gives the college the most flexibility.  Only gifts made to the Annual Fund count toward alumni participation rates.

Please consider contributing to the MMA Annual Fund and the outstanding opportunity we hold to access matching funds through the generous support of the Harold Alfond Foundation. Any amount or contribution is a great way to support MMA now and in the future. Should you have any questions or need further information please contact Chris Haley in the MMA Advancement Office at 207-326-2232.
