MMA students participate in multiple Veterans Day events from Castine to Arlington
Students from Maine Maritime Academy participated in Veterans Day ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, in the New York and Bangor parades, and on campus in Castine.
At Arlington National Cemetery, members of Drill Company for the Regiment of Midshipmen, MIDN 2/C Gabriella Bowes, MIDN 2/C Meadow Hughes, MIDN 2/C Braden Pelletier, and MIDN 3/C Adam Rivera, provided a color guard in honor of WWII U.S. Merchant Marine Services. The color guard presented the American flag and the U.S. Merchant Marine flag during the ceremony and accompanied American Merchant Marine Veterans representatives to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Thirty-seven Midshipmen of both Drill and Band Companies participated in the Veterans Day Parade in New York City, while in Bangor, ten Midshipmen of Drill Company participated in the parade. In Castine, veterans were honored at the Regiment of Midshipmen morning muster and Technical Sergeant Harrington Sauer gave a keynote address to veterans, students, staff, and faculty.
