Brother Endows Scholarship For Maurice Alpert `50
By Laurie Stone
J. Robert Alpert, CEO of the Alpert Companies in Dallas, TX, established a scholarship in memory of his brother,
Maurice Alpert '50, who passed away in October 2012 (See MARINER, 2013-1, p. 39, for his Eight Bells). Both
brothers have had distinguished and widely varied business careers.
Maurice Alpert received his bachelor's from Maine Maritime Academy and went on to graduate with honors from
New York University's School of Law. Immediately after finishing at MMA, he went to sea for one and a half years on a
cargo vessel. After receiving his law degree, he began practice as a lawyer in charge of leasing for a New Jersey regional
grocery chain, and then as a lawyer in charge of approval of all leases for Stockton, Watley & Davin in Jacksonville,
FL. Although a major factor in choosing MMA
was financial, he graduated with many close and
invaluable friends such as Peter, Bill, and Rocky.
