{"id":829,"date":"2018-07-30T13:58:10","date_gmt":"2018-07-30T13:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/undergraduate-catalog\/?page_id=829"},"modified":"2025-05-28T13:23:18","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T13:23:18","slug":"minors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/undergraduate-catalog\/curricula\/minors\/","title":{"rendered":"Minors"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Minor Programs and Concentrations<\/h1>\n<p>All\u00a0<a title=\"Academic Division\" href=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/undergraduate-catalog\/academic-division\/#TheAcademicDivision\">Academic Departments<\/a>\u00a0at Maine Maritime Academy offer opportunities for specialization in one or more areas of study.\u00a0Students wishing to receive credit for a specialized program of study should consult with the designated minor or concentration coordinator(s) to receive advice.<\/p>\n<h3>Minor Guidelines<\/h3>\n<p>A minor program generally consists of 18 credit hours of courses related to a specialized field of study and included on the official list of courses acceptable for that minor. A minimum of 12 of the 18 credit hours must be taken at Maine\u00a0Maritime\u00a0Academy. Courses identified for one minor cannot be counted for another minor.<\/p>\n<h3>Concentration Guidelines<\/h3>\n<p>A concentration generally consists of 18 hours of courses related to a specific field of study within, or extending the student\u2019s major program, and included on the official list of courses acceptable for that concentration.\u00a0A minimum of 12 of the 18 credit hours must be taken at\u00a0Maine\u00a0Maritime\u00a0Academy.\u00a0Courses identified for one concentration may not be counted toward any other concentration or minor.<\/p>\n<h3>Grade Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>To qualify for a minor or a concentration, a student must meet all requirements for graduation from\u00a0Maine\u00a0Maritime Academy.\u00a0Students are required to obtain a GPA of at least a 2.00 in the minor or concentration with no more than one grade below a \u201cC\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>More Than One Minor or Concentration<\/h3>\n<p>Students desiring approval to pursue more than one minor and\/or concentration must have approval from advisors in each of the sequences. ocean environment.\u00a0 The marine biology minor introduces students to general concepts in biology, and applies those concepts to marine botany and marine zoology.\u00a0 Students can further tailor
