Students who graduate from MMA with a bachelor&#8217;s degree are eligible for the MMA Alumni Advantage tuition discount toward the Master of Science degree offered at MMA. Residents of Puerto Rico\u00a0also are eligible.<\/p>\n<p>Under the NERSP, the following MMA majors are available to students from the states indicated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marine Biology:\u00a0 CT<\/li>\n<li>Marine Biology\/Small Vessel Operations: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>Oceanography: CT, MA, NH, PR, VT<\/li>\n<li>Oceanography\/Small Vessel Operations: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>Vessel Operations &amp; Technology: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>Small Vessel Operations: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>Power Engineering Operations: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>Power Engineering Technology: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>International Business &amp; Logistics: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>Interdisciplinary Studies: CT, PR<\/li>\n<li>Marine Systems Engineering (Non-License Track): CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>Coastal &amp; Marine Environmental Science: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<li>Coastal &amp; Marine Environmental Science\/Small Vessel Operations: CT, MA, NH, PR, RI, VT<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students from Connecticut, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, and Vermont who enroll in one of the following four majors qualify for in-state tuition rates. These four majors lead to a U.S. Coast Guard unlimited license and require membership in the Regiment of Midshipmen. An Admissions Office representative can determine if a student qualifies for these majors. See the catalog section on <a title=\"Student Life\" href=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/undergraduate-catalog\/student-life\/#studentlife\">Student Life<\/a> for more information on the Regiment of Midshipmen and the section on\u00a0<a title=\"Admissions\" href=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/undergraduate-catalog\/admissions\/#admissions\">Admissions<\/a> for the requirements for applicants to the U.S. Coast Guard license program.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marine Transportation Operations<\/li>\n<li>Marine Systems Engineering (License Track)<\/li>\n<li>Marine Engineering Operations<\/li>\n<li>Marine Engineering Technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students who seek to qualify for in-state tuition can find the Academy&#8217;s residency policy <a href=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/undergraduate-catalog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/07\/705-In-State-Tuition.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Room and Board<\/h3>\n<p>Room fees are based on double occupancy.\u00a0Single rooms may be requested through the Student Affairs Office.\u00a0Requests will be granted only when double occupancy is not required by the Academy to satisfy housing demands.\u00a0A student will not be charged the single room rate if the student has not applied for a single room and has followed proper procedures but is assigned a single room for the convenience of the Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Students who qualify for off-campus living may cancel the reservation for a room in Curtis Hall by making written application to the Associate Director of Student Services no later than two weeks after the beginning of each semester. Those students who cancel the reservation will be billed a $200, $400, or $600 fee and\/or charged on a pro-rated basis.<\/p>\n<p>The Academy reserves the option to place three students in a room in Curtis Hall during the fall and spring semesters.\u00a0Students will receive an adjustment in room rates at the end of the semester based upon the amount of time that triple occupancy occurred.<\/p>\n<p>All resident students who pay a room fee are required to participate in a board plan.\u00a0Board fees are billed each semester. Three meal plan options are available.\u00a0There is a fourth\u00a0plan that is available for commuter students only. Each student must provide proof of insurance and\/or participate in the Academy-sponsored medical insurance plan. Students should note that the rejection deadline is August 1 in order to have the charge removed from the bill. Students and\/or their families are responsible for notifying Health Services of any changes. These processes are all done through the portal.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the fees listed above, the Academy charges certain fees relating to students\u2019 specific courses.\u00a0A complete schedule of fees is available in Room 212, Leavitt Hall. Courses Lab Fee<\/td>\n<td width=\"77\">$432<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"466\">Skin &amp; Scuba Diving Course Fee<\/td>\n<td width=\"77\">$515<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"466\">NS499 License Prep Course Fee<\/td>\n<td width=\"77\">$183<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"466\">NS101 &amp; MD310 Course Fee<\/td>\n<td width=\"77\">$15<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>U.S.\u00a0Coast Guard User Fees<\/h3>\n<p>Students pursuing a U.S. Coast Guard license are advised that the Coast Guard charges user fees for life boat exams, license application evaluations, and documents (i.e., license and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uscg.mil\/nmc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Merchant Mariner\u2019s documents<\/a>). These fees are not included in the aforementioned tuition and fees requirements and are paid directly to the Coast Guard as required.<\/p>\n<h3>TWIC Card Fee<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/for-industry\/twic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TWIC<\/a> (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) cards are required of all students in the unlimited license program to participate in training cruises and cadet shipping, and for some other students for some cooperative assignments. Arrangements for obtaining a TWIC card are made through the Registrar&#8217;s Office early in the fall of the freshman year.
