Day 36: The switch

Posted on: June 11, 2019

We made it to England! The TSSOM arrived at its berth in Southampton, England, on Saturday, June 08. We are planning to leave here for Tallinn, Estonia, on Wednesday, June 12, but are enjoying our time in England while we’re able.  We have been busy since we arrived but the 2/C Junior Engineer’s the change-out was a success.

On June 09, the Cruise A’s 2/C engineers disembarked the ship and headed home to Castine for a few days of shore training. In their place, Cruise B’s 2/C engineers came aboard, along with a few watch and training officers.  While settling in, the 2/C Engineers received their room assignments, and life-saving equipment (Life Preservers, Immersion Suits).

Today, Charlie Company assumes watch from Alpha Company.  Alpha Company is on utility, keeping the ship tidy and clean.  Alpha Company’s 2/C engineers are also joining Bravo Company’s 2/C Engineers for training, and they are learning how to start the Emergency Diesel Generator, Life Boats, and how to do tank soundings. Delta Company is performing maintenance during the morning hours.  Liberty has been called for midshipmen not on watch beginning at 1230. Some students are headed to visit the historic Stonehenge site, some groups are headed by train to London, and some are staying here in Southampton to tour the local museums, parks, and dine on local cuisine.
