The Sawyer endowment was established for the benefit of students, faculty, and the program of the Corning School of Ocean Studies at Maine Maritime Academy (MMA). Through the generosity of its benefactors, W. Tom Sawyer and the late Nathan E. Corning, part of this endowment makes funding available for the Ocean Studies programs\u2019 needs, and provides for student and faculty grants. The Sawyer Endowment has generated increased recognition of the Ocean Studies program and has expanded the physical resources of the School of Ocean Studies.
