Self-study is the process through which the Academy&#8217;s programs are accredited. The process requires us to periodically examine ourselves with respect to a set of standards established specifically for colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>Based on MMA&#8217;s last self-study, NEASC&#8217;s Commission on Higher Education extended accreditation of our programs for a full ten years, from 2006-2016. In 2011, the commission accepted our interim self-study, and in 2012, it accepted our proposal to create a joint degree program with Dokuz Eyl\u00fcl University in Izmir, Turkey. In 2014, the commission extended our accreditation to include the new online M.S. degree program in International Logistics Management.<\/p>\n<p>To maintain accreditation, Maine Maritime Academy is completing a self-study in 2016. A visiting team of higher education professionals will visit campus <strong>Nov. 6-9, 2016<\/strong> to validate the self-study, meet with the campus community, and communicate its findings.<\/p>\n<p>Self-study is truly teamwork. Thirty-eight percent of all employees, 63% of full-time faculty, two graduate and nine undergraduate students, the BIW apprenticeship director, leadership, and several trustees have participated in the current self-study.
