Dining Hall Overhauled

A major dining hall renovation in the Alfond Student Center that began in May culminated with a reopening on September 13. The dining hall has more square footage, new food stations and additional food options. Here are some of the features:

  • The new deli counter includes a panini station
  • A built-in pizza oven is open for lunch and dinner
  • The new grill area offers the usual options and a full menu of cook-to-order entrees
  • A new, double-sided salad bar, breakfast station, and allergen-free zone features new foods, such as fresh and frozen options, and gluten-free foods
  • The new beverage station is located in the seating area for easy accessibility
  • A new dish-return carousel allows for easy drop-off of plates and glassware

To maximize food quality, refrigeration has been added to many of the food stations. There are new tables and chairs, as well as new lightweight dish-ware. And a new generator has been installed to allow food service in the case of power interruption in Castine.
