{"id":223,"date":"2019-04-16T15:56:40","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T15:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/mariner\/issue1-2019\/?p=223"},"modified":"2024-07-18T20:25:30","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T20:25:30","slug":"first-class","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/mariner\/issue1-2019\/campus-currents\/first-class\/","title":{"rendered":"First Class"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"subCategory\">Athletics<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>First Class<\/h1>\n<h2>Mariners swim team glides through inaugural NCAA season.<\/h2>\n<p>The MMA swim team finished their first season of NCAA competition with five student-athletes qualifying for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Three of those students are members of the program\u2019s first-ever recruiting class: Patrick McEneaney, Kaitlyn Reny and Joshua Roberts, all of whom are credited with helping to create a strong foundation for the future of the program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis first class is a very special group of pioneers. They have been excellent at bringing along the second wave of Mariners as they helped us recruit talented swimmers to the program and students to the academy,\u201d says Director of Athletics Steve Peed.<\/p>\n<p>Reny, the lone female to represent the Mariners at the NEISDA Championships, came to the academy because of its strong reputation for job placement and a hands-on approach to education.
