Brennan opened the meetings with an overview of the ongoing strategic planning process that has involved input from all MMA departments, the Board of Trustees and others interested in the success of MMA, and stated, \u201cTogether we have developed a decision-coordination process that allows for transparent review of planning, programming, budgeting and execution. We have undertaken a shared responsibility for reaching those goals through division objectives and attendant action steps towards measurable outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the goals are helping students overcome the increasing cost of education, providing enhanced continuing education, and facilities maintenance and renovation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn affordable education for all, including students of limited means,\u201d said Brennan, \u201cis a goal we have all embraced.\u201d To succeed, he added, new opportunities, sources of revenue, and cultivating philanthropy need to be pursued creatively.<\/p>\n<p>Examples cited, which MMA vice presidents subsequently discussed in more detail, are the multi-phase formation of the Center for Professional Mariner Development (see \u201cNew Training Facility,\u201d pg. 9), more cohesive use of technology campus-wide, redevelopment of portions of the waterfront, and improved outreach and fundraising capacity with particular emphasis on the Annual Fund.<br \/>\nQuestions from the audiences were fielded by event speakers, and lively discussions continued over the course of lunchtime.
