Library offers new services and tools.

Nutting Memorial Library’s director, Lauren Gargani, was appointed in October, 2016 after six years as the Public Services Librarian. Under her leadership, the library has established new goals focusing on instructional services, community engagement and stronger support for students and faculty.

In line with this emphasis, Ann Dyer was hired as Public Services Librarian, bringing a wealth of experience in educational media, instructional design and library services.

To supplement its excellent collection of curriculum-focused materials, in March the library joined the Minerva consortium of Maine libraries, which gives students and faculty access to the collections of more than 50 Maine libraries, while bringing the academy’s collections to the attention of library users throughout the state of Maine.

The library has evolved from being simply a quiet space for study and research to providing a wider variety of services and programs. For example, two virtual reality systems have recently been added, providing users the chance to explore and interact with new worlds, both real and imagined.

Both tools help students and faculty alike gain practice with emerging learning technologies. The library plans to develop virtual reality video content in partnership with Instructional Designer, Jim Picariello.
