Any student from a participating university is welcome. Absolutely no technical skills are required. In fact, we strongly encourage anyone from Business to Biology majors to participate and bring their fresh ideas to mobile app building. Training on the Modo Campus™ engagement platform will be provided prior to the event weekends.
We encourage students to participate in teams of 2-5 students. If you don’t have a team, apply anyways and your university we’ll help match you to a team.
Apps must be created on Modo Campus. This platform allows anyone without technical skills to create unique, one-of-a-kind mobile apps. Flexible click-and-drag screen templates allow you to incorporate any type of custom content, rich media, feed-based data and web applications into your app. To learn more about the platform check out the examples and visit www.modolabs.com.
None, apps will be created on Modo Campus™. Students who have technical skills are welcome to join but won’t need to use any programming language.

No! All food will be provided the weekend of the event and you can submit any dietary restrictions when applying.

At least one person from your team should be present at the competition location at all times.
There’s a first place prize of $1,000, second place prize of $500, third place prize of $250, and a chance to compete for the national prize of $10,000.
The first place winner will also be competing against other schools in the nation and will be eligible for a national prize of $10,000. Follow @modoideathon on Twitter to be in the loop of the national event. The national prize winner will be announced during the Kurogo Conference 2019 June 17 – 20, 2019 at MIT in Cambridge, MA. More details will be provided to the winning team.
Your app may be chosen to be included as a permanent module within the Maine Maritime Academy app.

Judges will use the following criteria: (possible point shown)

Challenge:
The team describes the pain-point or issue clearly and its importance 5
App presented actually tackles the challenge previously described 5
Execution:
– App’s ease of use and design and finish 5

– The alignment of the App’s functionality, resources and features with the chosen category 5
– The feasibility that the institution could incorporate this into their campus mobile app
Innovation:
Originality of the app’s idea or execution 5

Marketability on its own or as a component of the campus mobile app 5
Scalability to address the needs of a percentage of the campus population

Terms and Conditions

Students give the university the right to use screenshots of their apps for marketing and promotional purposes. Students grant Modo Labs the right to use screenshots from their app for marketing and promotional purposes. All participants must review and complete the Student Waiver at registration.
