Students complete both components as part of a structured two-year pathway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The GLVO concentration consists of:<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>a. Graduate-Level Coursework \u2014 30 credits, delivered online<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Students complete the full International Logistics Management (ILM) curriculum, consisting of:<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Core Curriculum:<\/strong> Six required courses (18 credits)<br \/>\n<strong>International Logistics Management (ILM) Concentration Courses:<\/strong> Four courses (12 credits)<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">All graduate-level courses are delivered online and asynchronously.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>b. Small Vessel Operations (SVO) Program \u2014 42 credits, on campus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Students complete Small Vessel Operations (SVO) courses and required examinations. Completion of the SVO program is designed to prepare qualified students to sit for the U.S. Coast Guard Mate, Less Than 200 Gross Tons, Near Coastal or Inland waters credential examination, provided all applicable U.S. Coast Guard requirements are met, including required sea service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Field Experience Requirement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students must complete a required off-campus vessel experience aboard a suitable vessel during the summer between Year 1 and Year 2 as part of the SVO component. This experience provides practical application of classroom, laboratory, and vessel operations training.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"283\" data-end=\"286\" \/>\n<h3>Graduate Course Delivery and Enrollment<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Each graduate-level course carries three (3) credits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Graduate-level courses are delivered online and are scheduled so that each course is offered at least once during the academic year. At least one graduate-level course is available during each nine-week session.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Students may enroll in a maximum of two graduate-level courses per nine-week session. Students may begin online graduate coursework in any available session.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Students enrolled in the Global Logistics and Vessel Operations (GLVO) concentration complete the Small Vessel Operations (SVO) component on campus as part of a structured two-year pathway.<\/p>\n<h3>Program Sequencing<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">GLVO students may begin online graduate coursework before beginning the on-campus Small Vessel Operations (SVO) component.<\/p>\n<p>SVO coursework begins in the fall and follows a prescribed course sequence. Approval from the department chair is necessary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic Standards<\/strong><br \/>\nA minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (a \u201cB\u201d average) on the 4.0 scale must be achieved to qualify for the Master of Science in Maritime Management degree. Students whose average falls below 3.0, who receive a grade of \u201cF\u201d, or who earn two or more grades of \u201cC\u201d will be reviewed by the Graduate Faculty Student Review Committee to determine the conditions under which they may be permitted to continue as degree candidates. This course supports the marine license program requirements to meet the Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW). The course may have embedded assessment requirements that must be completed in addition to the class requirements. It is designed to run concurrently with NS 101 and augment the seamanship skills taught in that class. The curriculum includes basic nomenclature, small vessel propulsion and handling, safety, and regulations pertinent to the Small Vessel industry. The lab portion of the course is taught by the Waterfront Staff and will provide students with the opportunity to put classroom concepts into safe practice aboard vessels on the water. Vessel construction terminology, the process of lofting, and scantling requirements are discussed. The lab is focused on the building of a 14-foot flat bottomed wooden skiff. Topics include charts, plotting tools and techniques, dead reckoning, gyro and magnetic compasses and their errors, fixes and running fixes, set and drift, tidal and current calculations, navigation publications, and chart correcting and piloting with electronic navigation instruments. Instruction covers the theory and practical application of electromagnetic and acoustic wave propagation as it pertains to modern electronic navigation equipment. Systems discussed include but are not limited to Marine RADAR, Marine Compass, Echo Sounders, Speed Logs, Satellite Navigation Systems, Marine Communication Systems, Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) and Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS).
