MMA plans to use the diesel generator as its foundation\/backbone for the course.<\/li>\n<li>The second objective of the course is to provide an introductory technician course on diesel-generators and gas-engines-generators. The benefit is that this type of equipment includes mechanical and electrical functions that will help the student understand maintenance and maintenance methodologies, which are applicable in many industrial equipment and settings.<\/li>\n<li>Emphasis will be put on the electrical side (power generation, stand-by power, switch panels, Telematics, Remote Monitoring, and power electronics).<\/li>\n<li>Once this first part is completed, the student will have a fundamental understanding of the field component of Enterprise Asset Management systems,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong> At the completion of this course, students will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Describe the safety hazards present in the shop and in the field, and review workplace communications and teamwork.<\/li>\n<li>Have a working knowledge of diesel engine construction and associated systems.<\/li>\n<li>Have an overview of maintenance with an introduction to maintenance and reliability, preventative and condition-based maintenance, along diesel engine maintenance and troubleshooting fundamentals.<\/li>\n<li>Understand power train fundamentals and how engine power is converted to torque to drive heavy equipment. Describe hydraulic fundamentals, and hydraulic circuits and components.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the fundamentals of diesel power generation, electrical systems, power distribution, automatic transfer switches, UPS systems, power storage, standby power, and generator performance.<\/li>\n<li>Understand and describe engine control systems. Mechanical Controls, Electronic Controls, and ECMs, I\/O, Emergency Systems, Modes, and Overrides. He is a 1980 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, with a BS in Marine Engineering and a 1992 graduate of Husson College with a Master of Science Degree in Business. He retired as a Chief Engineer\/Senior Maintenance Supervisor from Transocean Deepwater Drilling in 2021, after a 30-year career. During his career, he worked in the US GoM, Mexico, Brazil, along with new construction and commissioning projects in Singapore and South Korea. He sailed in deck and engineering functions on RoRo\u2019s, container carriers, and gas tankers. His career later expanded into the manufacturing sector before transitioning to the Oil &amp; Gas industry, where he worked for a Houston-based Offshore Support Vessel company.
