This credential can lead to opportunities working as a charter captain for fishing or sailing excursions, ferry operator, dive boat captain, or on other small commercial vessels.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify for an OUPV license, applicants must document a minimum of <strong>360 days of sea service<\/strong>, including at least <strong>90 days within the past three years<\/strong>. Additional U.S. Coast Guard requirements include proof of age and U.S. citizenship, qualifying sea service documentation, and meeting applicable medical and physical standards.<\/p>\n<p>Final license endorsements may vary based on your boating experience and intended area of operation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Upon enrollment, students will receive a training chart and maneuvering board sheets.<\/p>\n<p>A workbook featuring practical exercises in coastal navigation and chart plotting, tide and current calculations, and general navigation and deck topics will be available through Canvas.<\/p>\n<p>Students are required to provide their own navigation tools, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dividers<\/li>\n<li>Triangles<\/li>\n<li>Parallel rules<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topics Covered<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Participants will develop knowledge and practical skills in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rules of the Road<\/li>\n<li>Compass Use and Principles of Electronic Navigation<\/li>\n<li>Chart Work and Nautical Publications<\/li>\n<li>Coastal Piloting, Navigation, and Position Determination<\/li>\n<li>Meteorology, Oceanography, Tides, and Currents<\/li>\n<li>Aids to Navigation<\/li>\n<li>Communications<\/li>\n<li>Shipboard Management, Seamanship, Sanitation, and Safety<\/li>\n<li>Maritime Law, Credentialing of Seamen, and Ship\u2019s Business<\/li>\n<li>Pollution Management<\/li>\n<li>Vessel Maneuvering and Handling<\/li>\n<li>Anchoring and Berthing<\/li>\n<li>Marlinespike Seamanship<\/li>\n<li>Small Vessel Power Plants<\/li>\n<li>Firefighting, Lifesaving, and Emergency Procedures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To successfully complete this course, students must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete all required online coursework<\/li>\n<li>Successfully pass all required written examinations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Exam Scores<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students must achieve the following minimum scores:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rules of the Road:<\/strong> 90%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Deck General and Safety:<\/strong> 70%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Navigation General:<\/strong> 70%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chart Plot:<\/strong> 90%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"99\" data-end=\"102\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Access &amp;
