Course: Blended course, 36 hours of online coursework followed by a 4 hour on campus assessment.

 

Course Description
This USCG approved course meets the STCW mandatory minimum requirements for training and qualification of masters and officers on board ships operating in polar waters. The knowledge based information will be presented online, all sections will be followed with an online assessment which must be passed prior to advancing to the next section.

After finishing the online portion of the course the candidate must report to Maine Maritime Academy to complete the required on-site written final examination. Upon successfully completing the final examination certification will be issued.

 

Course Access
Upon registration students will receive a confirmation email with details on how to access the online coursework. You may complete the training at your own pace but may be required to finish one module before advancing to the next. Please allow 24 hours for the enrollment and activation process to be completed.

Once the online modules are completed you will register for your final assessment. Completion of the online modules is a prerequisite for attending the assessment day; however, you may register to take the assessment at any point after starting the course. If our schedule does not work for you, give us a call. We can often support alternative dates, pending instructor availability and timing.

Please note: Maine Maritime Academy uses Canvas as our online learning management platform. If you have previously completed any online learning classes at MMA, you will log back in with your existing username and password and see the new class on your dashboard.

 

USCG Approval:
This course meets the Certification requirements for Basic Polar Code Operations and satisfies the training requirement and standard of competence of Section A-V/4, table A-V/4-1, of the STCW Code as amended for Basic Polar Code Operations.
