{"id":95,"date":"2014-09-24T18:36:35","date_gmt":"2014-09-24T18:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/?page_id=95"},"modified":"2025-06-25T14:21:42","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T14:21:42","slug":"parking-registration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/parking-management\/parking-registration\/","title":{"rendered":"Parking Registration"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Vehicle Permits<\/h1>\n<p>All MMA faculty, staff and students who would like to park their vehicle on Campus, at the Waterfront or in the Penobscot lot during the academic year must register their vehicle with Campus Safety and always properly display a current MMA parking permit. The Department of Campus Safety uses a web-based parking management software that allows individuals to register their vehicle, purchase a parking permit, pay a parking citation or file an appeal at their convenience. You can log into the parking management software by visiting the website\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/portal.permitsales.net\/driverportal\/MMA\">https:\/\/portal.permitsales.net\/driverportal\/MMA<\/a>.\u00a0 Permits may be purchased using credit cards.\u00a0 Once your vehicle is registered, students are required to send a photo of their valid, state-issued vehicle registration to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:campussafety@mma.edu\">campussafety@mma.edu<\/a> for review before a permit will be issued.\u00a0 Permits will be available to pick up at Campus Safety during regular business hours.<\/p>\n<p>The first step to order a permit is to create a buyer account. \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/07\/LETS-REGISTER-AN-ACCOUNT.pdf\">Instructions to Create Account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have created your buyer account, if you are eligible to buy a parking permit, you may proceed to purchase a permit. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/07\/LETS-BUY-A-PERMIT.pdf\">Instructions to Buy a Permit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When registering your vehicle, please make sure you have the following information readily available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your MMA ID Number (It\u2019s on the front of your MMA ID)<\/li>\n<li>Your Driver\u2019s License Number<\/li>\n<li>Your vehicle\u2019s current, state-issued vehicle registration (for VIN, year, make, model, color, license plate and owner information)<\/li>\n<li>Your vehicle insurance policy number<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Student Permits<\/h2>\n<p>Resident Student Permits and Commons Permits are issued on a first come, first serve basis.\u00a0 Purchasing a Commuter Permit does not guarantee a parking space.<\/p>\n<p>Due to limited available parking at Maine Maritime Academy, students may have only one permitted vehicle registered at any given time during the academic year. \u00a0Student vehicles will be assigned a numbered permit which must be permanently affixed to the lower right corner of the vehicle\u2019s windshield (i.e. the passenger side). Permits must be unobstructed and must be displayed in a way that allows clear view of the permit color and permit number. Permits that are obstructed are not considered valid. \u00a0Permits that are taped on, laminated, damaged or placed on the dashboard will be considered improperly displayed and may result in a parking citation.\u00a0 <em>Students are not allowed to transfer permits from one vehicle to another vehicle. If a student changes vehicles during the academic year, they must exchange their permit. Please refer to the \u201cReplacement Permit\u201d section below.<\/em> \u00a0Current living arrangements will identify the appropriate permit for each student.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>*** First-year students may not have a vehicle on campus and are prohibited from purchasing a parking permit. If a first-year student receives 5 or more citations, they will not be eligible for a parking permit the following academic year.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Student permits are divided into four categories:<\/p>\n<div class=\"permitimg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"leftimg noborder alignnone wp-image-1286 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/09\/resident-permit.jpg\" alt=\"Student Parking Permit\" width=\"113\" height=\"115\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"permittext\">\n<p><strong>Resident Student: <\/strong>Students who are living in Curtis Hall* may purchase a Curtis Hall Resident parking permit on a first come, first serve basis for $150. This permit, permanently affixed and displayed in the lower, right corner of the windshield (i.e. passenger side), allows the student to park in any \u201cblue\u201d parking spot reserved for Curtis Hall residents for the academic year.<\/p>\n<p><em>* Students who choose to move out of Curtis Hall for the spring semester must return their \u201cblue\u201d resident student parking permit to Campus Safety. Once their resident permit is returned, the student will be issued a \u201cblack\u201d commuter parking permit free of charge.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"permitimg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"leftimg noborder alignnone size-full wp-image-1470\" src=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/09\/commons-permit.jpg\" alt=\"Commons Parking Permit\" width=\"113\" height=\"48\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"permittext\"><strong>Commons:<\/strong> Students living in the Commons may purchase a Commons parking permit for $150.\u00a0 This permit, permanently affixed and displayed in the lower, right corner of the windshield (i.e. passenger side), allows the student to park in any of the \u201cCommons\u201d designated parking spaces located in the Stevens Street parking lot for the academic year.\u00a0 The Commons parking permits are issued on a first come, first serve basis.\u00a0 If the Commons parking permits sell out, residents will be allowed to purchase a student parking permit, if one is available.<\/div>\n<div class=\"permitimg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"leftimg noborder alignnone size-full wp-image-1470\" src=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/09\/commuter-permit.jpg\" alt=\"Commons Parking Permit\" width=\"113\" height=\"48\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"permittext\"><strong>Commuter:<\/strong> Students who live off-campus may purchase a Commuter parking permit for $50.\u00a0 This permit, permanently affixed and displayed in the lower, right corner of the windshield (i.e. passenger side), allows the student to park in any \u201cCommuter\u201d parking spot which are designated with \u201cblack\u201d commuter parking signs. <em>\u00a0Purchasing a commuter parking permit does not guarantee a parking space<\/em>. \u00a0If all the commuter parking spaces are full, students are encouraged to park on Pleasant Street, Main Street or at the Fort George parking lot.<\/div>\n<div class=\"permitimg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"leftimg noborder alignnone wp-image-1289 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/09\/penobscot-permit.jpg\" alt=\"Penobscot Parking Permit\" width=\"113\" height=\"115\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"permittext\"><strong>Penobscot: <\/strong>The Penobscot lot is an off-campus parking lot located on Route 199 in Penobscot, Maine.\u00a0 This lot is used to accommodate vehicles for students who are unable to purchase a Resident student or Commons parking permit due to limited parking availability on campus. \u00a0Although there is no charge for the Penobscot lot parking permit, all vehicles must be registered with Campus Safety and display a permit to park in this lot.\u00a0 This permit must be permanently affixed and displayed in the lower right corner of the windshield (i.e. passenger side).\u00a0 \u00a0<strong>A shuttle to the Penobscot Lot is available on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings. Students are required to contact the front desk of Curtis Hall (326-2137, x2137) in advance to schedule a shuttle ride.<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>Campus Safety may suspend the shuttle due to hazardous roads\/weather conditions<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Motorcycle \/ Moped:<\/h2>\n<div class=\"permitimg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1528\" src=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/10\/moto.jpg\" alt=\"Motorcycle permit\" width=\"79\" height=\"50\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Faculty, staff and students who would like to park a motorcycle or moped on Maine Maritime Academy property must register their motorcycle or moped through Campus Safety. Please contact Campus Safety to obtain a motorcycle permit. <strong>Motorcycles, mopeds and scooters<\/strong> <strong>must be registered to the current owner and display a valid license plate to park on campus<\/strong>. Motorcycle permits are free. A Motorcycle permit (green) must be prominently displayed on the motorcycle or moped at all times.\u00a0 Motorcycles and mopeds are permitted to park in designated motorcycle parking areas located throughout campus. Motorcycles and mopeds and motorized bikes are not allowed inside any MMA building for any reason. \u00a0Due to the limited number of parking spaces, motorcycles and mopeds <strong>are not<\/strong> allowed to park in vehicle parking spaces. To facilitate snow removal, motorcycles or mopeds are not allowed to park overnight after November 1st. <strong><em>\u00a0Motorcycle\/Moped permits are issued for three-year periods, as indicated on the permit.\u00a0 It is the responsibility of the driver to obtain a new permit when the permit expires.\u00a0 \u00a0If a motorcycle\/moped is purchased or sold during this period, please contact Campus Safety to update vehicle information.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Employee Permits<\/h2>\n<div class=\"permitimg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noborder alignnone wp-image-1520 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mainemaritime.edu\/campus-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2024\/10\/fac-tag.png\" alt=\"Staff\/Faculty Tag\" width=\"186\" height=\"125\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Faculty and staff are required to register each vehicle that they would like to park on Maine Maritime Academy property in their driver portal. Employees will be issued <strong>one parking permit<\/strong> which will hang from the rearview mirror, allowing the employee to transfer the permit between up to 10 registered vehicles.\u00a0 By displaying this permit, you will be allowed to park a registered vehicle in the \u201cRed\u201d parking lots reserved for faculty and staff.\u00a0 If you purchase a vehicle, add your new vehicle information to your driver portal. If you need assistance, email Campus Safety. <em><strong>Employee permits are issued for three year periods.\u00a0 It is the responsibility of the driver to obtain a new permit when the permit expires.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Temporary Parking Permits:<\/h2>\n<p>A limited number of temporary parking permits are available for individuals who have a current Maine Maritime Academy parking permit but are unexpectedly required to use a different vehicle for a short period of time (e.g. a loaner vehicle because your vehicle is being repaired).\u00a0 Faculty, staff and students should contact Campus Safety to obtain a temporary parking permit prior to parking the vehicle on campus.\u00a0 Temporary permits will be issued for a set period of time and are not to be used as a replacement permit.\u00a0 Please bring your MMA ID and state-issued vehicle registration to Campus Safety to obtain your temporary permit. Temporary parking permits are available 24 hours a day. If the door is locked, call to meet with the officer on duty.<\/p>\n<h2>Replacement Permits:<\/h2>\n<p>It is the permit holder\u2019s responsibility to <strong>return the original<\/strong> parking permit to the Department of Campus Safety before a new permit will be issued.\u00a0 You must return your original permit to be issued another. Razor blade scrapers are available at Campus Safety to help remove the old permit from your vehicle.\u00a0 MMA parking permits are designed to tear and\/or break when removed from a windshield.\u00a0 Campus Safety will accept a returned parking permit that is in pieces. \u00a0Students can not transfer permits. If you buy a new vehicle and wish to park it on MMA property, you must come to Campus Safety with your ID, the original permit, and your new vehicle\u2019s registration to update your information and exchange your permit.<\/p>\n<p>When a parking permit is replaced, the old permit will be voided.\u00a0 If a voided permit is found on a vehicle parked on MMA property, the Campus Safety Officer will issue a parking citation and immobilize the vehicle. The individual using the voided permit will lose their parking privileges for the remainder of the academic year.\u00a0 An investigation will occur and an incident report will be forwarded to the Commandant of Midshipmen and\/or Dean of Students.<\/p>\n<p>Stolen parking permits should be immediately reported to the Department of Campus Safety.\u00a0 The student reporting a stolen permit will complete an incident report with a Campus Safety Officer that include a description of the incident, date and signature.\u00a0 A new permit will be issued at no charge and the stolen permit will be voided.<\/p>\n<p>Each student is allowed two replacement permits per year at no cost.\u00a0 If any student should require further replacement permits, a $5.00 charge will be assessed per permit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vehicle Permits All MMA faculty, staff and students who would like to park their vehicle on Campus, at the Waterfront or in the Penobscot lot during the academic year must register their vehicle with Campus Safety and always properly display a current MMA parking permit.
