Peter F. Thompson passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at his home in Kingfield.<\/p>\n
Peter was born in Skowhegan, the son of Clarence \u201cTommy\u201d and Beverly (Fairfield) Thompson. He grew up in Machias, graduating from Machias Memorial High School and Maine Maritime Academy in Castine with a B.S. in Marine Engineering.<\/p>\n
He shipped first to Hawaii where he met the love of his life, Leimomi Buchanan and married her on the USS Independence. Although he grew up on the East Coast and Leimomi in Kauai, Hawaii, they both fell in love with the mountains of western Maine and made their home in Kingfield for over 40 years situated on the river of the Carrabassett. Peter achieved the position of Chief Engineer at the early age of 36, no doubt a great achievement, and when on leave he dabbled in real estate. Leimomi managed the business when Peter was away on ship.<\/p>\n
Upon retirement he got into the business full-time and loved to \u201cget out there and work hands-on\u201d where he helped a lot of people. He always had great respect for the Mountain, although he never skied. He also was a huge fan of Bob Dylan and an avid reader. Peter will always be remembered in this way. He was special indeed and he is already greatly missed by many.<\/p>\n
He was predeceased by his parents.<\/p>\n
Survivors include his wife, Leimomi Thompson; his children, Max of Bangor, Laura of Oregon; and his grandchildren; as well as his sister, Vicki Palmer and her husband Edwin of Franklin and their children Tom and wife Bobbie and Jeff. And, of course, he always had \u201cthe Elizabeths.\u201d Elizabeth the 4th, a German Shepard who was his work companion. His friend of many years, Bob Bergeron, wrote \u201canother of our friends gone too soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
