Dale W. Lindsey \u201947 died on June 27, 2024. He was ninety-seven.<\/p>\n
Dale was born and grew up in Rockland Maine. Summer work at Snow\u2019s Shipyard, an interest in boat building, and World War II led him to Maine Maritime Academy. While in Rockland, Dale built his first house, and with his wife Jean, raised a son, Bruce, and a daughter, Marcia. He was elected to the Rockland City Council and served as chairman. Dale held several other positions with Mobil and finished his 33 year career as Senior Marine Representative in the U.S. Marine Division, retiring in 1985. Dale and Jean returned to Maine to raise their granddaughter Stephanie, and saw her off to college.\u00a0 After that, for the next quarter century, Dale remained busy in his well-equipped basement workshop. He and Jean continued to live independently in their house and enjoy visits with many friends and neighbors.<\/p>\n Dale is survived by Jean, his wife of nearly 76 years, and his son and daughter-in-law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
\nFollowing graduation, he received a 3rd Assistant Engineers license for steam and motor vessels of unlimited horse power. He sailed on the S. S. America and three other ships of U. S. Lines as Jr. 3rd engineer. He wrote that after that \u201c\u2026one thing led to another.\u201d He made his home in Rockland where he first worked as engineer on fishing boats. Upon attaining his pilot\u2019s license, he was appointed Captain of Mobil Oil Company\u2019s Cape Ann Socony<\/em>, a tanker serving islands of mid-coastal Maine and down east.<\/p>\n
