Born in Rockland, Feb. 14, 1945, he was the son of Thomas Gerard Spearin Sr. and Reecyl Clark Spearin. Tom was a graduate of Thomaston High School and a 1967 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy.

During his time at sea, he sailed most of the world and was an officer at the time of his retirement from the Merchant Marine. From the 70s to mid-80s, he lived intermittently in Spain and became fluent in Spanish.

Always a hard-working man, after returning to Maine, Tom lived on Matinicus Island where he lobstered for over a decade. Tom’s many interests included hunting, fishing and a love of nature. He also enjoyed cooking, Westerns and sci-fi books and films.

Predeceased by his parents, Tom is survived by his children, Thomas Henry Spearin (Lidon Beltran) of Castello, Spain and Elizabeth Spearin of Valencia, Spain; his siblings, Robert Spearin of Bradford, Donn Spearin (Paulette Strout) of Thomaston, Tim Spearin (Santiago Perez-Varela) of Atlanta, Ga., Jeanne Spearin Pipicello of Owls Head and Sharon Brow (Jeff Brow) of Warren; three granddaughters, twins Martina and Clara, and Caterina; many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his good friend and neighbor Art Stanley.
