Mark N. Young ’75

Mark N. Young, 59, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, surrounded by his loving wife, Ida-May; sister-in-law, Michelle Sargent-Leighton; and niece, Richelle Leighton, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth, after battling cancer. Mark was born June 14, 1953.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Ruth and Peter Young of Corea; his father, Vincent A. Young; his mother, Noelle B. (Dubois) Young; and his aunt, Kathleen Worcester, all of Corea. Mark is survived by his wife; Ida-May Sargent-Young of Corea; his brothers, Emmanuel V. Young and his wife, Maria, of Corea and Arthur S. Young and wife, Rose, of Corea; daughter, Melissa Richards; grandsons, Dakota and Caleb; many nieces and nephews, Sheldon Young of Richmond, Va., Maria Jordan and her husband, Glen, of West Gouldsboro, Mindy Wark and her husband, Kevin, of Gouldsboro and Kristina Young of Farmingdale; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews, many cousins and extended family in the U.S. and Belgium; sisters-in-law, Michelle Sargent -Leighton and her husband, Richard, of Winter Harbor and Denise Sargent – Lapointe and her husband, Jim, of Thompson, Conn.; stepsons, John M Estes of Bangor and Joshua Estes of Orono; stepdaughter, Christina Kelley and life partner, Connie Stevens; granddaughters, Dena and Emily of Louisiana; and special friends, Randell L. Bacon of Gouldsboro and Ralph Diebal of Missouri.

Mark graduated from Sumner Memorial High School, Sullivan, in 1971 and went on Maine Maritime Academy until he graduated in 1975. He was a merchant mariner for 26 1/2 years for Mobil Oil as chief engineer. In 2001 he came back to Corea and became a fulltime lobster fisherman, as he did as a young man and enjoyed until the time of his death. Mark enjoyed living life to the fullest and bringing happiness to all that knew him. He enjoyed long walks on the beach with his wife, Ida-May, and his dogs, Cleatus and Rufus.

A celebration of Marks Life is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 23 at Gouldsboro Recreation/Gym, Pond Road, Gouldsboro.
