Whether you left MMA due to personal, medical, or academic reasons, there are opportunities for readmission, and our Admissions team is here to support your journey.

Applying for Readmission

If you would like to return to MMA please complete and submit an application for readmission. Your application will be submitted to our Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management for review.

Once we have received your application, we will contact you regarding supplemental materials and to discuss a timeline for reenrollment.

Following your acceptance, you may reenroll at the start of the fall semester, the spring semester, during annual training cruise, prior to cadet shipping, or in advance of your co-op experience.

If you plan to reenroll in time to complete a summer program, you may need to meet additional prerequisites or attend training sessions in the spring. Please contact the office overseeing the summer program regarding such requirements.

Application Requirements

Please submit your application for readmission to our office by:

  • May 1 for enrollment during the Fall semester
  • October 15 for enrollment during the Spring semester
  • October 15 for enrollment in the Summer Term

Once we have received your application, we will contact you regarding supplemental materials and to discuss a timeline for reenrollment.

As a returning applicant, your application may include:

  1. A completed application for readmission and $50 fee
  2. A letter of intent noting why you wish to return to Maine Maritime Academy and a brief description of what you’ve been doing since you left
  3. A typed resume to include a description of what you have done during your absence. Include, for example, employment, schools attended, courses taken
  4. Two (2) letters of recommendation from a current or recent faculty member or employer
    1. Please ask your recommender to submit their letters directly to the Admissions Office; submissions must be on letterhead, and can be emailed to admissions@mma.edu. The letters cannot be forwarded by the applicant.
  5. An official transcript from each school attended since last enrolled at MMA
  6. Confirmation from MMA’s Business office that you are in satisfactory financial standing with the Academy

Note: Disciplinary suspensions and medical leaves-of-absence will need to provide additional documentation.
