CASTINE, Maine\u2014The Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees will hold a regular quarterly meeting on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. in the Holmes Heritage Room, located at the Harold Alfond Student Center on the campus in Castine. Committees of the Board of Trustees will meet on the hour between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the Holmes Heritage Room also on Friday, May 6.<\/p>\n

At the upcoming meeting the Board of Trustees will also welcome three new appointees: Mr. Gregory Fryer of Cumberland, Maine; Ms. Carolyn Brodsky of Scarborough, Maine; and Matthew Fendl of Ellsworth, Maine\u2014an MMA student who will serve as Student Trustee. Trustees are appointed by the Governor and serve a 5-year term; the Student Trustee serves a one-year term.<\/p>\n

Carolyn Brodsky of Scarborough, Maine is President of Sterling Rope Company, Inc. in Biddeford, Maine, a leading life-safety rope manufacturer. Prior to her work with Sterling, Ms. Brodsky founded and ran Marketing Basics Applied, Inc., a marketing and sales consulting firm focused on the marine industry. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Outdoor Foundation and the Climbing Wall Association. Carolyn received a BA from Smith College in 1980, and is a lifelong sailor, skier and outdoor enthusiast. In acknowledgment of her leadership, Carolyn was named \u201cWoman to Watch\u201d by MaineBiz in 2012.<\/p>\n
Midshipman Matthew Fendl, a member of the MMA Class of 2017, will serve as the Student Trustee on the Maine Maritime Academy\u2019s Board of Trustees. Matthew is a Dean\u2019s List student, a member of the Regimental Command structure as Cadet Chief Mate, and a member of the Regimental Training Staff as 2\/C Stryker. He tutors students in navigation classes and is also a volunteer member of the Castine Fire and Rescue Department. He is from Ellsworth, Maine and attended Ellsworth High School.<\/p>\n
Gregory S. Fryer, of Cumberland, Maine, has been a Partner with Verrill Dana, LLP in Portland since 1986, concentrating in corporate and securities law. Prior to joining Verrill Dana, Mr. Fryer worked for law firms in Atlanta, Georgia and New York City. He earned his J.D. from Cornell Law School in Ithaca, New York, and an A.B. degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire and enjoys sailing, skiing and hiking. He is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and has received several honors in his profession, including ranking within The Best Lawyers in America\u00ae list.<\/p>\n
Meeting times and location are subject to change. If changes occur, a revised schedule will be posted at the entrance to the Holmes Heritage Room. The next MMA Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016.<\/p>\n
