My interest in computers, digital communication, and web design started a long time ago (as in before even Y2K). My digital work is driven by a passion for design and usability. Although I have lived in many places I would consider myself a Mainer and have lived at my current home in Surry, Maine since 2002.
I also share my enthusiasm for athletics at MMA as an assistant cross country coach. My start in competitive racing began as a member of the U.S. Whitewater Canoe & Kayak Development Team for whitewater slalom kayaking in the early ‘90s. Several years ago I was lucky enough to stumble upon obstacle course racing (OCR) and immediately enjoyed the full-body, multiple discipline events. Since discovering OCR I have continued to increase the level of difficulty each year including the Spartan Ultra World Championship in Åre, Sweden in November 2019. I have had the privilege of creating an MMA OCR team for several Spartan events as well.
Prior to Maine Maritime Academy, and outside of web design, I created and directed a non-profit travel camp for children in foster care named Squeaky Wheel Adventures. The camp utilized a 1963 converted 40’ transit bus that was powered by vegetable oil and solar power. The trips were typically five days long and would include activities like daily living on a bus with shared responsibilities (cooking, cleaning, filling the vegetable oil tank,…), exploring nature (national parks, hiking trails,…), visiting cities (New York City, Montreal,…), and time together. It was often common to travel with siblings that were unable to live together in their current living situations.
