Subchapter M Auditing @ Maine Maritime Academy

This course is for individuals who are interested in obtaining Subchapter M and auditor training along with managers, consultants, and executives who are eager to learn more information regarding Subchapter M. This course will begin your understanding and training third-party auditors the auditing process. This course will also discuss ISO and ISM auditing and how it all ties back into Subchapter M and its audits on towing and other small vessels.

ISO 9000 & 9001 Quality Management Systems @ Maine Maritime Academy

Students will be prepared to carry out the internal, supplier audits required by the ISO 9001. Have a full understanding of the documentation and auditing processes; examine the inter-relationship with Quality, Environmental & Safety Management Systems; gain practical skills & techniques, dos & don’ts of the voluntary ISO 9001.

International Safety Management (ISM), Maritime Auditor Training @ Maine Maritime Academy

The course is designed for marine safety professionals, ship owners, ship management specialists, and marine consultants. Participants are introduced to the evolution of the ISM code, safety management principle and how they apply to safe ship operation, and how to plan and prepare for audits.

Designated Person Ashore, DPA @ Maine Maritime Academy

The ISM code requires a shore based representative available to vessels at all times for crisis management and/or for personnel to have for safety or human cultural issues. This course covers communication for both internal and external parties examining various circumstances DPA’s may encounter.

Suggested Prerequisite: ISM Maritime Auditor Training Course due to the knowledge of the ISM Code that is required for DPA.

Vessel Security Officer @ Maine Maritime Academy
Feb 17 @ 8:00 am – Feb 18 @ 5:00 pm

This 2-day course trains vessel personnel in security responsibilities, awareness, including emergencies, reporting, audits, threats, and knowledge of the ISPS code.  This course does involve interactive drills outside the classroom.

USCG Approval:

This course satisfies the training requirements of 33 CFR 104.215(d)(1)(iv) and STCW Code Section A-VI/5 for an STCW endorsement as Vessel Security Officer.

Leadership & Managerial Skills, GAP Assessment @ Maine Maritime Academy

This course consists of 35 total hours:
– 27 hours of online coursework
–  8 hour final assessment taken on Maine Maritime’s campus

An assessment date can be arranged with the Continuing Education department once the online portion of the course is started.

Before being able to sit for the assessment, course completion must be verified by the Continuing Education department.

Leadership & Managerial Skills is for both deck and engine license holders who are upgrading to management level. Team working skills is also incorporated into this course, so operational level licensees can take this course and cover the components for both operational and managerial skills.

A total of 35 hours is required to complete this course:
– 27 hours of online coursework
–  An 8 hour final assessment taken on Maine Maritime Academy’s campus

An assessment date can be arranged with the Continuing Education department once the online portion of the course is started.

Before being able to sit for the assessment, the Continuing Education department must verify the successful completion of the online portion of the course.

Engine Room Resource Management is for operational engine license holders. It is a requirement under the STCW-2010 guidelines.
