Students will be prepared to carry out the internal, supplier audits required by the ISO 9001. Have a full understanding of the documentation and auditing processes; examine the inter-relationship with Quality, Environmental & Safety Management Systems; gain practical skills & techniques, dos & don’ts of the voluntary ISO 9001.

International Safety Management (ISM), Maritime Auditor Training @ Maine Maritime Academy

The course is designed for marine safety professionals, ship owners, ship management specialists, and marine consultants. Participants are introduced to the evolution of the ISM code, safety management principle and how they apply to safe ship operation, and how to plan and prepare for audits.

We invite you to join us as Jeff Wright, Director of Alumni Relations; Chris Haley, VP for Institutional Advancement; and Larry Burrill ’77, Co-Chair of Opening Doors, Changing Lives: The Scholarship Campaign for Maine Maritime Academy visit Jersey City, Houston, Seattle, and Portland. These “Up Close” presentations are designed to update alumni on MMA’s current academic offerings and student services, recent facility improvements, and future initiatives. We hope you will join us for one of these dynamic presentations. We begin with a reception at 6 PM followed by the presentation at 7 PM.

Designated Person Ashore, DPA @ Maine Maritime Academy

The ISM code requires a shore based representative available to vessels at all times for crisis management and/or for personnel to have for safety or human cultural issues. This course covers communication for both internal and external parties examining various circumstances DPA’s may encounter.

Suggested Prerequisite: ISM Maritime Auditor Training Course due to the knowledge of the ISM Code that is required for DPA.


Sea Dog Chapter Tour @ Coastal Resources of Maine

On Friday, October 25, join the Sea Dog Chapter for a tour of the new $70 million Coastal Resources of Maine waste-to-energy facility. Located across the street from 92 Harold Bouchard Way on Coldbrook Road in Hampden, this hi-tech facility sorts, recycles, reuses and refines 180,000 tons of municipal trash annually from 115 area municipalities.

Following the tour, muster up at Seasons Restaurant, 427 Main Street in Bangor (Black Bear Room).

Join us in the fieldhouse for some monstrous fun! Admission is free to students, non-MMA guest tickets are just $10.  There will be a DJ, food, a photo booth, prize giveaways, and a costume contest. Come in your best Halloween attire. While encouraged, costumes are not required.

Crowd Control & Passenger Safety @ Maine Maritime Academy

This course meets mandatory training requirements for Crowd Management and Passenger Safety for mariners with applicable duties aboard RO-RO Passenger and other passenger vessels.  Individuals will learn about lifesaving tools, control plans, mustering techniques, and how to assist passengers to muster stations.

USCG Approval:

  • Regulations V/2 paragraphs 4-7
  • Regulation V/3 paragraphs 4-6 as specified in the STCW 95’ Code Sections A-V/2 and A-V/3 Volume 46 CFR Subpart J 15.1101-15.1105 (STCW Certification)
  • CFR 46; Ch. 1 Subpart 171.01-171.105 (Passenger Vessels)
