IndEx @ Maine Maritime Academy

The Independent Experience (IndEx) is the kick-off to the new year for all incoming Independent students!

You will complete your New Student Orientation requirements and get a chance to meet all of the other new Independent students. All IndEx sessions and activities are required for first year Independent students, regardless of residential status.

Residential students: You are required to report and move into your on-campus housing assignments between 10AM and 12:00PM. You can check-in and pick-up your key at the main entrance to Curtis Hall.

Commuter or Off-campus students: You are required to report to the main entrance of Curtis Hall by 12:00PM.

Friday, 8/23/19: IndEx Begins – Day One

  • 10:00AM – 12:00PM– Resident student move-in (Curtis Hall Rear Entrance)
  • 11:00AM – 12:00PM – Off-campus student check-in (Curtis Hall Rear Entrance)
  • 11:00AM – 1:00PM – Lunch available with student ID or for purchase (Main Dining Room)
  • 1:00PM – Student welcome and kick off meeting (Delano Auditorium)
  • 1:30PM – 2:30PM – Emergency Action Plan Training (Delano Auditorium)
  • 2:30PM – 3:30PM – Concurrent Sessions
    – Information Technology Session (1954 Lecture Hall) / Ship Jump Training Part 2 (Pool)
  • 3:45PM – 4:45PM – Concurrent Sessions
    – Information Technology Session (1954 Lecture Hall) / Ship Jump Training Part 2 (Pool)
  • 4:45PM – 7:00PM – Dinner provided (Main Dining Room)
  • 7:00PM – Bonfire at the Backshore (weather permitting)

Saturday, 8/24/19: IndEx continued – Day Two

  • 8:00AM – Breakfast provided (Main Dining Room)
  • 8:40AM – Meet your group, load busses (Leavitt Lawn)
  • 9:00AM – Depart for Acadia National Park – meals provided (Leavitt Lawn)
     – 10:30AM-2PM: Sand Beach | 2:30PM-5PM Downtown Bar Harbor | 5PM-6PM Dinner on the Green
  • 6:00PM – Depart Bar Harbor (Town Green by Waterfront)
  • 7:30PM – Return to campus (Leavitt Lawn)

Sunday, 8/25/19: Ship Jump day 

  • 6:30AM – 7:10AM Breakfast provided (Main Dining Room)
  • 7:15AM – Meet your group (Leavitt Lawn)
  • 7:30AM – Class Photo (Waterfront)
  • 8:00AM – Ship Jump Begins (Waterfront)

Each fall, first-year students gather at the stern of TS State of Maine for an official “jump” into their life as a Mariner. Join us as we watch President Brennan and the #ClassOf2023 take the plunge!

Closed shoes are required to board. No glass bottles/containers, no strollers permitted on board. All children 12 and under are required to wear Coast Guard approved life jackets, we have a limited number of minimum 30 lb. jackets, but none smaller, so they must provide their own.

No more than 30 passengers per trip, this includes children of any age, even babies in arms.
