ISO 9000 & 9001 Quality Management Systems @ Maine Maritime Academy
Nov 18 – Nov 19 all-day

Students will be prepared to carry out the internal, supplier audits required by the ISO 9001. Have a full understanding of the documentation and auditing processes; examine the inter-relationship with Quality, Environmental & Safety Management Systems; gain practical skills & techniques, dos & don’ts of the voluntary ISO 9001.

Section 608 Certification Exam @ Maine Maritime Academy

Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires persons who work with or purchase regulated refrigerants for stationary equipment to become certified through a closed book exam. This examination is a total of 100 questions, broken down into four sections: Core, Type‐I, Type‐II and Type‐III. The certification types are defined as follows:

TypeI: Required for servicing small appliances
TypeII: Required for servicing or disposing of high‐pressure appliances, except small appliances and MVACs
TypeIII: Required for servicing or disposing of low‐pressure appliances
Universal: Earned when a candidate successfully passes all four sections of the exam.

Candidates must pass the Core secon along with one or more of the Types to earn a certification.

Materials Allowed: A calculator (four‐function preferred,) a pressure/temperature chart and scratch paper.

Time to Complete Exam: 2 hours

Passing Score for Each Section: 70% or better.

International Safety Management (ISM), Maritime Auditor Training @ Maine Maritime Academy

The course is designed for marine safety professionals, ship owners, ship management specialists, and marine consultants. Participants are introduced to the evolution of the ISM code, safety management principle and how they apply to safe ship operation, and how to plan and prepare for audits.

Designated Person Ashore, DPA @ Maine Maritime Academy

The ISM code requires a shore based representative available to vessels at all times for crisis management and/or for personnel to have for safety or human cultural issues. This course covers communication for both internal and external parties examining various circumstances DPA’s may encounter.

Suggested Prerequisite: ISM Maritime Auditor Training Course due to the knowledge of the ISM Code that is required for DPA.

The team is in the area playing at Bowdoin on Friday and versus UMaine on Saturday – a great chance to cheer on the Mariners!

Subchapter M Auditing @ Maine Maritime Academy

This course is for individuals who are interested in obtaining Subchapter M and auditor training along with managers, consultants, and executives who are eager to learn more information regarding Subchapter M.  This course will begin your understanding and training third-party auditors the auditing process.  This course will also discuss ISO and ISM auditing and how it all ties back into Subchapter M and its audits on towing and other small vessels.
