Brown, Clark, Smith, and Thibodeau Inducted into
William J. Mottola Athletics Hall of Fame

Maine Maritime inducted Jim
Brown, Class of 1983, Barry
Clark, Class of 1959, Lindsay Smith,
Class of 2000, and Don Thibodeau,
Class of 2006 into the William J. Mottola
Athletics Hal of Fame.
Jim Brown, a 1982 team captain and
four-year starter at safety, was a three-time
NEFC All-Conference selection, two-year
AP All-New England Second team selec-
tion, ECAC Division III All-New England
selection, Boston Herald All-New England
selection, and a recipient of the Boston
Globe Golden Helmet Award.
Barry Clark was a three-year starter for
footbal and basketbal . A two-way player in
footbal , Clark was an outstanding defensive
lineman who excelled in stopping the run
and causing turnovers. In basketbal , he set
scoring records in the pre-winter cruise era
and was an excellent jump shooter.
Lindsay Smith, the first recruited female
athlete at Maine Maritime Academy, was
on the first-ever women's varsity basketbal
team, and served as the first-ever female
cadet Chief Engineer. A three-year team
captain, Smith led the Mariners to three
North Atlantic Conference championships.
Smith ranks first all-time in steals per game
(2.9) and second all-time in steals (245).
Don Thibodeau, the 2001 NEFC offen-
sive Rookie of the Year and 2005 NEFC
offensive Player of the Year, grabbed two
All-Conference nods, and received the 2005
Gridiron Club Joe Zabilski Award. Thibo-
deau led the Mariners in rushing yards in
2001, 2003, and 2005, while also leading in
total offense in 2001 and 2005. He remains
ranked third all-time for most touchdowns
in a game (4) and 4th al time with most net
yards rushing in a game (311).
