in, and later CEO and president of, his father's blueberry company. He was a well-respected Maine state senator
Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association
from 1955-1978 and a trustee of Maine Maritime Academy from 1962-1978. Because of Wyman's service to
District No. 1-PCD (AFL-CIO)
MMA and the state, the Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees passed a resolution in November of 2006
to designate the residence of the president of the academy as "Wyman House." The resolution said that Wyman
"loved the academy and endorsed significant initiatives on its behalf in addition to personal y providing substan-
tial financial support. As a long-term and very influential member of the Maine State Senate, he was particularly
effective in ensuring that the academy was appropriately recognized and adequately funded..."
From 1995 until 2010, former President Leonard Tyler and his wife, Bonnie, occupied the house and contin-
ued the tradition of using the first floor for academy entertaining and formal occasions. Dining-In, the etiquette
program for MMA students, was held in the formal rooms. During the Tyler residency, the house was careful y
redecorated by Bonnie Tyler, to maintain its turn-of-the century character.
"We're real y pleased that the academy is committed to creating a permanent home for alumni on campus," said
Paul Mercer, Director of Alumni Relations. "It's fitting that career services wil share this space, as our alumni
play such an important role in advancing our students' careers."

M.E.B.A. is the nation's oldest maritime labor union, established in 1875. We represent licensed
engine and deck o cers aboard seagoing vessels, ferries and government-contracted ships. Our
members also serve on tugs and barges, research vessels and in various capacities in the shore-
side industries. In wartime, our members have sailed in virtual y unarmed merchant ships deliv-
ering critical defense cargo despite attacks from enemy aircra , submarines and warships.
