Captain Peg Brandon, Marine
Transportation Department, and
Betsy Reese,
Arts and Sciences
Department,
coming
off
a
successful, vibrant exhibition at
the Castine Historical Society
entitled "Schooner Bowdoin on the
Greenland Patrol", have received a
grant from the William M. Wood
Foundation to continue their
research and collaborative efforts.
The team is continuing to gather
information about the Bowdoin
during its WW II Greenland Patrol
period. The grant allows Brandon
and Reese to hire students to
assist with the research, which
in turn gives students real-life
research skills on a project that
benefits the Schooner Bowdoin,
MMA, the greater community,
and the Castine Historical Society.
Simultaneously,
Brandon
and
Reese are mounting their exhibit
online and investigating new
venues for parts of the current
physical exhibit. Finally, the
William M. Wood grant has
allowed them to purchase a chart
Penobscot Marine Museum Honors MMA
case to protect the charts received
from the David Nutt family. Nutt
was the executive officer of the
Bowdoin during the Greenland
Patrol years.
