Exciting Changes In Athletics Department
Stephen Peed Director of Athletics
Assistant Director of Athletics, Compliance Coordinator, and Sports Info Director, Steve Peed, was
appointed August 16, 2012 to lead the MMA Athletics Department. With his BS from McDaniel College and
his MS in Sport Management from Drexel University, Peed joined the athletic staff in 2011, and has worked
nonstop to improve the quality of MMA athletics across the board. He rewrote the athlete handbook,
drafted a compliance manual, and created a digital records database while simultaneously taking official
department photos, writing all the sports stories and taking photos for the Mariner, and managing public
relations for the department. He came to MMA from Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania where
he was Associate Athletics Director for several years. As the new Director of MMA Athletics, he states, "I'm
greatly honored by my recent appointment as Director of Athletics at Maine Maritime Academy. It is not
lost on me that I have inherited an enduring legacy forged by revered athletics directors such as Dave Wiggin, Bill Mottola, and Jim Dyer,
coaches, instructors, and administrators like Ed Biggie, Verge Forbes, and Len Tyler, and the scores of athletics alumni who have sweat
and bled in the blue and gold."
