Navigating Using a Sextant

Posted on: June 26, 2017

After a chilly night the crew has been enjoying a sunny, cloudless day. Some students have passed their time by fishing, while others read, knit, and slept. Capt. Jergenson showed students how to use a sextant to observe the angle of the sun above the horizon. Another sailboat, the Walkabout, hailed us this morning and wished us a good season of sailing. They are headed to Labrador. We’re continuing to sail after a quick passage across the Gulf of Maine and are finally out of the strong currents found around Cape Sable.
