Maine Maritime Academy Commencement Set for Saturday, May 4, 2013 Ceremony Viewable Via Live Webstream

CASTINE, Maine – The Honorable Paul LePage, Governor of the State of Maine, will address the graduating class at the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Seventieth Commencement on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Alexander Field House.

CASTINE, Maine – The Honorable Paul LePage, Governor of the State of Maine, will address the graduating class at the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Seventieth Commencement on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Alexander Field House.

“We are honored to have the Governor address this graduating class personally,” said MMA President, Dr. William J. Brennan. “He appreciates the impact our graduates have on the Maine economy and his presence will be a meaningful send-off for our students as they launch successful careers in the marine industry.”

Commencement activities will begin at 9 a.m. with the annual awards program in Delano Auditorium in Leavitt Hall. The college’s class of 2013 includes 12 Master of Science, 180 Bachelor of Science, and 20 Associate in Science degree candidates.

Seating at this year’s ceremony will be open and admission to the Alexander Field House will not require guest tickets. Overflow seating will be available in Smith Gymnasium. Guests seated in this area will be able to watch a remote broadcast of the ceremony. The college will also sponsor a live webstream broadcast of the ceremony, enabling family and friends to watch the event online. Dr. William J. Brennan, MMA president, will present diplomas. Dr. John Barlow, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, will preside at the exercises. The oath of office will be administered to new U.S. Merchant Marine officers by Captain Christopher L. Roberge, United States Coast Guard. Captain Michael A. Hegarty, United States Navy, will administer the oath of office for Navy Officers. A formal commissioning ceremony will take place one hour following the conclusion of Commencement, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of Leavitt Hall. In the event of inclement weather, the commissioning ceremony will be held in Delano Auditorium.
