Charles B. Doughty ’54

Charles B. Doughty, 84, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on May 5, 2017 at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine. He was a lifelong resident of Vinalhaven and spent winters in Port Richey, FL playing golf, going to dances, dinners and shows until the last few years when he was unable to participate.

Charles graduated from Vinalhaven High School in 1951, and Maine Maritime Academy in 1954. He was a Navy Veteran and served in the Korean War. He retired as an Engineer from the Maine State Ferry Service several years ago. He was also a member of the V.F.W.

Charles was predeceased by his father and mother, Ralph and Ethel (Young) Doughty, and his brother Lermond. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Priscilla (Benner) Doughty. He is also survived by two sons, Gerald Doughty and his wife Susan, David Doughty and his wife Cherie, and a daughter Cheryl (Sissy) Doughty, his sister Doris Slivinsky all of Vinalhaven; seven grandchildren: Aaron, Michaela, Kyle, Josh Wesley, Josh Michael, Josiah, and Deja; four great-grandchildren: Azarial, Aleckzander, Logan, and Henry; two nephews, Peter and Matt Slivinsky and their families; also a brother-in-law Horace Benner and his wife Gloria.

A private military service will be held in July.
