Charles A. Dickman ’45

Lowell, MA — Charles Alfred Dickman, 88, son of John and Mildred Dickman of Gloucester, born June 6, 1925, passed away October 18, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Maryline and his two daughters, Inga Nuccio and Heidi Taylor. Also survived by Inga’s husband, Paul and children, Zachary and Christopher, from Westford, MA; Heidi’s husband, Don and their children, Luke and Hannah from Los Alamos, NM. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ursula and his twin brother, John. Charlie was a 1943 graduate of Gloucester High School and a 1945 graduate of the Maine Maritime Academy. He served as a second lieutenant in the Coast Guard in World War II. He spent the rest of his career as Captain of Merchant Marine vessels around the world. He was also a proud member of the Boston Marine Society. He was an avid ham radio operator, call number W1MZ, keeping in touch with other operators around the world. Charlie’s grandfather, Alfred “Centennial” Johnson, sailed alone in a dory from Gloucester to Wales in 60 days in 1876. And the dory now resides in the Cape Ann museum.

ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no services at this time. His ashes, per his request, and due to his lifelong love of the sea will be scattered from a Merchant Marine vessel at a later date.
