Peter M. Thibeau ’66

NEW LONDON, CONN. – Peter M. Thibeau, beloved husband of Gail Thibeau, 75 of Niantic, CT, died surrounded by his family on June 18, 2017, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a long battle with heart disease and other medical ailments.

He was born on September 14, 1941, to Walter and Rose (King) Thibeau in Brewer, ME. He graduated from John Bapst High School in Bangor, ME, in 1959, where he was a three-sport varsity athlete.
After high school, he worked as a carpenter for his father and for a local television network. He also attended Husson College in Bangor. He entered Maine Maritime Academy, in Castine, ME in 1962, and graduated in 1966 with a mechanical engineering degree. Peter was the first in his family to graduate from college. He married Gail Boyle on June 11, 1966, in Bangor, Maine.

Peter entered the Merchant Marines after graduation and sailed for Texaco out of Port Arthur, TX. In 1968, he went to work for General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT, as an engineering specialist, and he recruited engineers for EB. He retired in December 2003.

Gail, his wife of 51 years; his daughter, Kimberly; and son, Gregory; his grandchildren, C.J., Calvin, Ashley, Gianna and Brady; and his dog, Parker, survive him. Peter’s family, especially his grandchildren, were his greatest passion and love. His beloved older sister, Barbara Brooks of Huntsville, AL, and many nieces and nephews, also survive him. Peter was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Philip and Walter; and his sister, Leslie Welch.
