STATEMENT OF THE JOB

 

·         Employee reports to the Chief Engineer or his designated subordinate.

·         Position requires U.S.C.G. Merchant Mariners Certification, a TWIC, and Third Engineers License (Steam and Motor, any horsepower).

·         Position requires STCW 95 certification.

·         Experience in the fields of rigging, welding, joinery, electrical, electronics, process controls and or other engineering disciplines required.

·         Position serves as a crew member of the Training Ship and goes on the annual training cruise along with other ship deployments as required.

 

DUTIES OF THE JOB

 

1.         Responsible for using and maintaining engineering department stores, spares and equipage, consistent with industry practices and standards.

2.         Responsible for identifying and reporting needed repairs, accomplishing the repairs and testing of completed repairs, as directed.

3.         Assists with the operation, preventative maintenance and repair of vessel machinery and systems as directed including all ship’s plumbing systems.

4.         Responsible for maintenance lab assistance as directed by the Chief and/or 1st Engineer.

5.         Responsible for compliance with Regimental & Academy rules, regulations and safety policy as they relate to the position.

6.         Maintain records of prophylactic inoculations of self and assigned Cadet Plumber rates and or other vessels personnel in the inoculation program, in liaison with the MMA health staff.

7.         Acts as a working example to, and with, students and or other Academy personnel as assigned.

8.         Assists the Engineering Staff in training and execution of all emergency drills and  procedures.

9.         Is assigned to the vessel and as such participates in all deployments, as a watch stander if needed.

10.     As a uniformed officer, will comply with the regimental uniform regulations as modified by the Commandant for Staff Officers.

11.     Is expected to enforce regimental regulations.

12.     May supervise students and regular employees as assigned.
