STATEMENT OF THE JOB


Employee must possess a USCG 100 Ton Limited Mates license and US Sailors Level 1 certification.  Employee is responsible for the operation and instruction of the sailing craft program at the Academy and operates multiple Academy small craft.  Employee is responsible or will assist with the day to day maintenance projects on various Academy small vessels and must also have a moderate to high degree of mechanical ability.  Employee may provide input for budget and report preparation.

DUTIES OF THE JOB

 

1.                  Responsible for designated sailing programs, including sailing instruction.

2.                  Serves as advisor to the Academy yacht club and yacht crews.

3.                  Assists with annual budget for sailing craft and yacht races.

4.                  Coordinates sailing activities with Academic Department Heads, Commandant of Midshipmen and the Marine Operations Manager or designee.

5.                  Maintains rigging and other maintenance and repairs of sailing craft.

6.                  Maintains sailing craft safety and maintenance records.

7.                  Responsible for developing a system of Academy vessel operator qualifications and record keeping, with the coordination of the Waterfront Secretary; of students, Academy personnel, and alumni.

8.                  May be required to crew on various Academy vessels, including deliveries as directed.

9.                  May teach physical education sailing or other applicable course.

10.              Responsible for compliance with safety regulations.

11.              May supervise student and/or regular Academy employees.
